Numerical Modelling and Design of Aluminium Alloy Angles under Uniform Compression

Research studies have been reported on aluminium alloy tubular and doubly symmetric open cross-sections, whilst angle cross-sections remain limited. This paper presents a comprehensive numerical study the response of stub columns. Finite element models are developed following series modelling assumptions. Geometrically materially nonlinear analyses with imperfections included executed, obtained results validated against experimental data available in literature. Subsequently, parametric is carried out to investigate local buckling behaviour angles. For this purpose, broad range cross-sectional aspect ratios, slenderness two types structural alloys considered. Their effect strength discussed.
